The 2018 Science and Technology Award Presentation Conference of Chinese socie-ty of plant protection was held in Xi’an on Oct. 25th. The Science and Technology Award of Chinese Society of Plant Protection is a social science and technology award, which was approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Of-fice of Science and Technology Awards. It is a comprehensive award for the field of plant protection throughout the country, aiming to recognize the organizations and individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the work of plant protec-tion science and technology; to encourage and mobilize the enthusiasm of the ma-jority of plant protection science and technology personnel; to improve the inde-pendent innovation capability of science and technology; and to promote the sci-ence of plant protection; and finally, to contribute to the development of agricul-ture, rural economy and modern agriculture in China.

     High officials and experts, Chinese Society of Plant Protection, the Department of Life Sciences of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Ministry of Agri-culture and Rural Affairs (MARA), and more than 1,000 scientific researchers around the country attended the conference. Dr. BAI Lianyang, Vice President of CSPP, announced the "Decision on the Recognition of the Science and Technology Award of Chinese Society of Plant Protection in 2018". Four achievements such as “Research and application of rat disease detection and prevention technology in ru-ral areas” were awarded the first prizes, nine achievements such as "Important seed-ling transmitting virus bacterial detection screening technology and application" were awarded second priz-es, and 8 achievements such as "Research and ap-plication of key technolo-gies for prevention and control of western flower thrips" were awarded third prizes. There were totally 83 prize-winning units and 197 individuals.

     It is hoped that the award-winning organizations and individuals will conscientious-ly put more efforts on the promotion of plant protection science and technology, accelerate the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and make greater contributions to the advancement of plant protection science and tech-nology.

     It has been reported that the Science and Technology Award of Chinese Society of Plant Protection was officially approved by the State Award Office in 2007 (No. 0169 of the Social Certificate of the National Science Award). So far, it has held seven ses-sions. In 2018, four first-class awards, nine second-class awards and eight third-class awards were approved after the qualification examination, network evaluation, com-mittee evaluation and Award Committee examination. Poster exhibition of the award-winning achievements was organized during the conference.
