The 14th Chinese Nematology Symposium was held in Baoding

  During Aug. 7th-10th, the 14th Chinese Nematology Symposium was held in Baoding, Hebei Province. This symposium was co-organized by four organizations, including the Professional Committee of Plant Nematodes of Chinese Society of Plant Patholo-gy (CSPP), IPP-CAAS, State Key Laboratory for Biology of Plant Disease and Insect Pests, and Plant Protection Institute of Hebei Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences. More than 320 researchers and students from over 60 universities and insti-tutes all over the country attended this meeting.

  Prof. PENG Deliang, Director of the Professional Committee of Plant Nematodes, introduced the history and achievements of nematology research in China and pro-vide an outlook of the future of fundamental and applied research of nematology. During the meeting, Profs. ZHANG Shaosheng and WANG Mingzu, who are from Fujian Agricultural and Forestry University and Huazhong Agricultural University respectively, received the “Lifetime Achievement Award” for their dedication to the development of nematology research in China.Prof. WANG Xiaohong from Cornell University, Prof. Pierre Abad from French Na-tional Institute for Agricultural Research and Prof. Roland Perry from Hertfordshire University delivered invited talks on their latest research work in the field of nema-tology. In addition, Prof. JIAN Heng gave a presentation about the interaction mech-anism between host plants and nematodes. Prof. LIU Xingzhong introduced achieve-ments in managing nematode disease by applying biological control method. All people who participated this symposium communicated actively and shared their views with each other during the time.

  As an indispensable part of CSPP, the Professional Committee of Plant Nematodes plays an important role in the integrative management of plant disease caused by nematodes, significantly contributing to the safe production of main crops and vege-tables in China. This symposium promoted the influence of nematology. It is also beneficial to the collaboration of departments from different universities and insti-tutes, which will further contribute to the food security of China.
