On Nov. 4th-7th, 2018, the kickoff meeting of Sino-Norwegian International Cooperation Project “Sinograin II: Tech-nological innovation to support environmentally friendly food production and food safety under a changing climate opportunities and challenges for Norway-China cooperation” was successfully held in Beijing. Mrs. Marte Lia Torskenæs, the Development Counsellor and Mrs. Anne Kari Johansen, the Education and Research Counsellor of Norwegian Embassy in Beijing, Mr. Per Stålnacke, Director General of the Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research, Mrs. Jihong Liu Clarke, project manager on the Norway side, Dr. YANG Puyun, Director of the Department of Pest Management, National Agricultural Technology Extension and Service Center, Mr. HAO Weiping, the Deputy Director General of the International Cooperation Department of CAAS, and Mr. CHEN Tianjin, Deputy Director of the Bilateral Division at the International Cooperation Department of CAAS, were invited to attend the meeting. DG ZHOU Xueping, DDG ZHENG Yongquan, Dr. ZHANG Lisheng, Director of the Department of Scientific Research of IPP-CAAS were present at the meeting. Dr. CHEN Julian, Director of the International Cooperation and Graduate Students of IPP-CAAS chaired the meeting.

　　Mr. HAO Weiping highly appraised the achievements of Sino-Norwegian international cooperation, warmly expressed his congratulations on the approval of funding of Sinograin II, and emphasized the theoretical and application significance of scientific and research innovation of food production and food safety in the environmen-tal changing background. He said that the kick-off workshop for this project provid-ed a chance of exchange on plant protection research among organizations and universities in the two countries. Mrs. Marte Lia Torskenæs, Mr. YANG Puyun, DG ZHOU Xueping and Mr. Per Stålnacke gave presentations to introduce the project research background, funding resources, Sino-Norwegian cooperative basis, main progresses of Sinograin I, and expected targets of Sinograin II, respectively. DG ZHOU Xueping and DG Per Stålnacke signed the paperwork for project implementation representing IPP-CAAS and NIBIO, respectively. During the meeting, the project participants discussed extensively on the joint research work and goals, and proposed detailed research plans for each group. Totally, more than 50 people including the administration staff from both sides and major research members of this project attended this meeting. Overall, the meeting laid a solid foundation for the smooth implementation of the Sinograin II project smoothly.
