Delegation of the United Kingdom visited IPP-CAAS

On June 11th 2018, a UK delegation led by Kenneth Wilson, professor in Lancaster University, visited IPP-CAAS accompanied by Dr. XU Pengjun, Tobacco Research Institute, CAAS. Prof. QIU Dewen, DDG of IPP-CAAS met with the UK delegation. During the visit, Prof. QIU Dewen welcomed UK delegation’s visit, he briefed the delegation on the layout of the IPP-CAAS, the research disciplines, achievements in basic and applied researches and internation-al cooperation between IPP-CAAS and institutes in other countries. Prof. QIU Dewen also ex-pressed hope to continuously consolidate the traditional friendship and further strengthen cooperation between the IPP-CAAS and research institute in UK in plant protection. Prof. CHEN Julian, the Director of Department of International Cooperation and Graduate Stu-dents, IPP-CAAS, Prof. GAO Li, Deputy Director of Department of International Cooperation and Graduate Students, IPP-CAAS, attended and hosted the meeting.
Then, Profs Kenneth Wilson, Matthew S. Heard, professors in Center for Ecology & Hydrolo-gy, Natural Environment Research Council and Dr. Gia Aradottir from Rothamsted Research, gave presentations titled as “Harnessing microbes for the biocontrol of insect crop pests”, “Achieving sustainable agricultural systems”, and “Designing future wheat: searching for re-sistance traits to insect pests in wheat and its wild relatives”, respectively. Experts from IPP-CAAS, Profs. CHEN Julian, ZHANG Zehua, MA Chunsen, JIANG Xingfu gave presentations “Enhancement of natural control function to aphids by intercropping and infochemical re-leasers in wheat ecosystem”, “Locust and grasshoppers management in China”, “Resolving the population dynamics of pests under extreme climate events” and “Migratory immunity: densi-ty-dependent prophylaxis, immune response and host flight manipulation in Mythimna sepa-rata”, respectively, to promote deep cooperation with UK delegation. Both sides in IPP-CAAS and UK delegates gained an in-depth understanding of the respective research areas and will help in promoting further cooperation in pest management.
More than 80 scientists and postgraduate students in IPP-CAAS attended the meeting.
